Our incredible calling as believers in Christ surpasses anything we can fathom. In the same way that God called Abram from idolatry to a land of promise, He has called us from the darkness of sin and ignorance to the illuminating knowledge of God.
We have been called from bondage to legalism to the liberty of the Gospel, from turmoil and unrest to the peace and quietness of reconciliation with God, from spiritual death to eternal life, from unholiness to fellowship with God, from self-interest to partnership with Christ’s sufferings, and from uncertainty to the eternal glory in Christ.

From Darkness to Light:
The first part of our calling is to be called from the darkness of sin and ignorance to the knowledge and light of God.
The Bible says in 1 Peter 2:9 that we are “a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”
We were once lost and blind in our sin, but now we have been given the gift of sight to see the beauty of God and the truth of His Word.
From Bondage to Liberty:
The second part of our calling is to be called from the bondage of legalism to the liberty of the Gospel.
Galatians 5:13 says, “For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.” We were once bound by rules and regulations, but now we have been set free by the grace of God. Our obedience to God is not out of obligation, but out of love for Him.
From Turmoil to Peace:
The third part of our calling is to be called from the turmoil of unrest and disquietude to the peace and quietness of reconciliation with God.
Colossians 3:15 says, “And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.”
This passage highlights the importance of finding inner peace and tranquility through our relationship with Christ. In a world that is often filled with chaos and turmoil, it is easy to become overwhelmed and feel lost.
However, we must remember that we are called to something greater – a life of peace and harmony with our Creator.
We were once restless and anxious, but now we have been given the gift of peace through the blood of Christ. We can rest in the assurance of our salvation and the hope of eternal life.
From Death to Life:
The fourth part of our calling is to be called from the death of spiritual death of trespasses and sins, unto eternal life. John 5:24 says, “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life.
He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.” We were once dead in our sins, but now we have been made alive in Christ. We have been given the gift of eternal life, and we can live with the assurance of our salvation.
From Unholiness to Holiness:
The fifth part of our calling is to be called from the unholiness of the self-life to the holiness of fellowship with God. 1 Peter 1:15 says, “But as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct.”
We were once unholy and separated from God, but now we have been called to be holy as He is holy. We can live in fellowship with God, walking in obedience to His Word and living a life that is pleasing to Him.
From Self-Interest to Partnership:
The sixth part of our calling is to be called from the wrangling of self-interest to partnership with Christ’s sufferings—1 Peter 2:21; 1 Peter 3:9.
1 Peter 2:21 “For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps.”
1 Peter 3:9 “Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing.”
It’s no longer about our own personal interests or agendas, but rather, it’s about serving God and serving others.
When we partner with Christ’s sufferings, we’re willing to endure hardships and persecution for the sake of the gospel. We’re willing to deny ourselves and take up our cross daily to follow Him—Luke 9:23.
From The Uncertainty Of The Future To The “Eternal Glory” In Christ
The seventh part of our calling is to be called from the uncertainty of the future to the “eternal glory” in Christ—1 Peter 5:10. As believers, we have the assurance of eternal life in Christ, and we can be confident in the hope of our future with Him. We can trust that no matter what happens in this life, our future is secure in Him.
As we walk in our calling, it’s important that we walk worthy of it—Ephesians 4:1. We should strive to live a life that is pleasing to God and honors our calling.
We should seek to grow in our relationship with Him, to become more like Christ, and to fulfill the purpose that He has for our lives.
As believers, we are called to walk in the footsteps of Jesus Christ and strive to emulate His life and teachings. This means that we must actively seek to grow in our relationship with Him, deepening our understanding of His character and His will for our lives.
One way to walk worthy of our calling is to make it “sure” by our obedience—2 Peter 1:10. Obedience is an important aspect of our faith, and it’s how we demonstrate our love for God—John 14:15.
When we obey God’s Word, we show that we trust Him and believe that His ways are better than our ways. We demonstrate that we’re willing to submit to His will and His plan for our lives.

In conclusion, our calling as believers is a high and holy calling. We’re called to be set apart for God’s purposes, to live a life that is pleasing to Him, and to fulfill the purpose that He has for our lives. We’re called to a life of holiness, of service, of suffering, and of hope.
